Notice of proposed settlement
« Reply #15 on: June 25, 2004, 12:28:44 AM »
just received a personal e - mail from pcb0960 saying her settlement money was coming in handy because she was the primary breadwinner now . suggested she contact other members of xertech if she has any low / mid volume copy machine problems because since i retired i'm not current on the present problem sets with those machines . and i'm sure others here are more up to date than i am .

and as a reminder , if you send me a personal e - mail , i will respond on that forum unless you request that i keep your e - mail and my reply private . i feel keeping these public educates everyone .

just received another personal e - mail from pcb0960 and patricia informs me that she just received a check for over $8k . she stated that she knew that she still liked xerox for a reason .

in reply i told her congradulations and that xerox and it's current employees and retirees could use her well wishes although i wasn't sure if xerox would exactly care or not  :)

also thanked patricia for sharing her personal case with us cause it proves there was some money for some out there in this RIGP settlement process . not just the lawyers .

as a additional note : if you sent me a personal e - mail and don't want me to splash it all over one of our xertech forums , then be sure to let me know . because i feel making it public educates all of us . and i wiil make it public as a personal policy unless you specificly request that i don't .

I just got my check from Berger Pension on Saturday. I didn't want to count on it until it was in my hand.

I left "mother X" in 1994 on the VRIF.  I never did feel that my tally matched theirs. Looks like I was right.

To those still waiting. It looks like the check writing machine is finally running.  :D

My best to those still hanging in there. I have many friends that are still with the X and hoping to hang on until they wish to retire.  I work for a third party service company and hope there are a few good years left before I polish that resume once again.

 formertech ,

i absolutely agree with you about wishing those who are still employed by the big X the best in getting to their retirement age . i felt it was dicy with my retirement until just months before i left . i saw alot of friends laid off .

good luck in not having to fill out another resume . hope your retirement plans work . it's sweet after you're there and worth all the effort .

An update, my friend got his check too. But he was surprise to see that they took 10% penalty for early withdrawal (under 59 1/2) and his 20% withholding.  Now, he his wondering if he can still open up an IRA and avoid the penalty. I say yes, but now he has to come up with his own money (to cover the full amount) and wait until next year when he file his tax return to get the refund.  Like I said last time, it is money, ignorance can be expensive.

 Guest_ Ilion ,

your friend's experience is normal when withdrawing money from a deferred account before age 59 1/2 . because the check was already cut in his name and the funds distributed to him , he cannot roll that money into a i.r.a. now . this is known as " a day late and a dollar short " .  :)

you are correct that he can that he can come up with his own money ( to cover the full amount ) and then file his taxes and wait until next year to settle up this mess . i suggest that your friend get together with a really good tax person to make sure this gets done right or it could get worse if your friend isn't careful .  :(

:) I received my check 2 weeks ago, $22,000. It took 3 months after the paperwork was sent to Berger in Dallas, but worth waiting for. I rolled it over to my IRA, so no tax concerns right now, but next year after I retire I will pay reduced taxes as I take an annuity.

Thanks to all the responses on my POST, and I hope all others will receive their money soon.
Regards,

Daryle Lessard / X Train Inc.

wow . congradulations xtrain    . and you did the exact right thing by rolling it over to not pay ANY taxes now and to protect ALL your options later . not sure i personally agree with a annunity , but in certain instances they are a possibility . but that's for each investor to decide for themselves .

and if invested correctly , you can figure a DOUBLE every 7 to 10 years or so . i actually pulled a double in as little as three years durning the secular bull market days of the 90's . and going forward in these difficult market conditions , pulling a double will probably take longer . so your $22k can turn to $44k and then to $88k and possibily to $176k before you join that last xerox repair team .

appreciate your sharing your personal numbers with us xtrain cause it gives others the educational benefit of your success and investing savy . you did much better than Guest_Ilion's friend as a example of " what not to do "    when you are presented with such a sum of money .
