Title: Friction Oil Alternative
Post by: DT_Guru on July 04, 2009, 10:47:50 PM
Has anyone found a suitable substitute for the green tinted friction oil used on one way clutch's. I have found it listed on a 3rd party site but it quite expensive.

Thanks

Sorry about the previous lack of responce......couldn't get the site to work. I've been using Graham Gold traction lube for years with good results. It's made by Graham Transmission Co., but I haven't been able to find a website for them. Let us all know if you find it.

You're right. A web search comes up empty.

I wonder if a manual transmission fluid like Pennzoil Synchromesh has the same properties as the original stuff supplied by "X". I am thinking along the lines that manual transmission fluid has traction and lubricating characteristics.

If you have a one-way that is slipping and isn't damaged, clean it out well and try it by hand on a shaft before lubing......it shouldn't slip if it's clean. Try lubing it and see if it makes it slip. The wrong kind of oil will make it slip pretty quickly. Let us know if the transmission fluid works.

I have used the manual transmission fluid brand sold by Redline, known as  "MTL"

It has worked well on slip clutches, Their marketing statement sold me. Its about $11.00 a quart plus S/H. Compared to about $70.00 for perhaps 4 onces of the "Xerox" traction oil via 3rd party.
