Your timing on taking profits last Wednesday was excellent , big ' O ' .  :-) . I should have sold out a day or two sooner .

Clayt. and Dick took Clayt.'s fifth wheel down on the Kenai last Friday and parked it at Scott's gift store near Soldotna for the summer . Cindy'll go down for her annual wood carvers BBQ the weekend before Memorial day weekend . I'm still in Hawaii but fly out of here next Friday the 4th and drive down to Homer on the 8th for a couple of days and then drive north to Fairbanks on May 17th to hang my for sale sign on my North Pole lot so my summer'll start off busy . I'll take the Denali Hyway at Cantwell and drive east to Paxson before heading north again . That road isn't maintained or plowed all winter and when the state opens that unpaved road on May 15th , I like to be one of the first travelers over it to see the wildlife before the tourist traffic takes over for the summer . I usually get hail or snowed on that first nite I spend in the middle of the hyway between Cantwell and Paxson . Most of the lakes are frozen over when I pass through and the culverts and ditches are full of spring break runoff . Road is usually open , but the sholders are really soft yet so you have to drive in the middle of the road which isn't a problem cause there isn't much traffic .

I asked the bearded one if he was headed south this spring and he wasn't sure . I asked him if he had called you and he said , " the phone works both ways " . ? ? . So you can see , he's being his usual friendly self .  . Don't know how Cindy puts up with it .  :?

I'll call the milk drinker later this morning bright and early and let him know we chatted and see if I can't warm up up to the idea of taking a trip south .

Mahalo for checking in here . Later

Xerox is making some major changes to our 401(k) program . There will be a FREEZE on ALL account activity from June 22nd until June 28th . There is a memo that has already been sent and a instruction book to all participants . Looks like Xerox will be doing business with Vanguard on alot of funds in the future .  :-) . And as most of you already know , Vanguard is one of the least expensive mutual fund families for fees . There is also a memo on what funds presently offered now will no longer be offered and what money presently in certain funds now will transfer into in the future .

ARXE members can access this information on our web site ( http://www.arxe.org ) , otherwise look to your mail box for more details .

Hi Al, Big O here. Clayt sold me a book for $10- he said he got it at a garage sale. It's by a guy named Sy Harding titled riding The Bear.  Do you know anything about it? Whats your opion on the market right now- should a guy be in or out?

Hello big ' O ' . I gave Clayt. that book by Sy Harding so it cost the bearded one NOTHING . And I just purchased another half dozen copies to give away to other friends up here and they cost me a big $5 apiece . So our mutual buddy stole your money .

The book is excellent and I have a copy in Kona and now one here . Sy has a web site at : http://www.streetsmartreport.com . He usually has a freebie post every Friday on his web site where he has a weekly commentary . I go there every Friday to read it . As for where one should be invested now that the stock market is at all time highs , I'm ZERO percent stock market asset allocation waiting for a correction to buy back into a downturn later this summer .

What do you think of our 401(k) changes . ? ?  I got quite a packet in the mail . I like the cheaper Vanguard mutual funds , but the 401(k) does seem to be more complicated now with these new " target " funds that I don't particularly care for .

For those interested , I made my second Vanguard GNMA ( VFIJX ) purchase on Thursday , June 7th , at a nav price of $10.00 to give me a quarter position in this fixed income asset class . With my $9.93 buy last June 22nd , 2006 , this gives me an adverage purchase price of $9.965 . I expect to make additional buys at $9.95 and possibily $9.90 a share later this month and on into the summer / fall . These are for conservative investors interested in fixed income investments with an excellent regular monthly dividend paid by Vanguard guaranteed by the money printing press of the federal government .
