Ultra 10 pdf ripping
« on: September 29, 2009, 05:59:28 PM »
I have 2 docs both with ultra 10 rips. One rips pdfs just fine and the other doesn't get all of the detail in the pdf. Is this 2 different processors or are we missing something?
I want them to at least move up to a blade but no bucks. Thanks

More likely a software revision level.
I seriously doubt that it's a processor or memory issue.

What are you running on the Ultra 10's?  I've never seen an Ultra 10 on a 6135, although I have seen a few NS Plus servers using an Ultra 10 to feed a DT135

as just a rip ( assuming NSPlus variety ) you should be able to hook up both to the good rip.

NSPlus's can have numerous dt135's connected however only (2) queue's can transmit.
also check the print driver(s), there may be a difference in settings.

Tey are in different locations but doing different things to the same file, one prints and leaves out things like faint page numbers and a diagonal line, and the other prints the same file just fine.

Are these rips Fibre Gateway, if so what version, or NS Plus and what version?

Check the NS Plus version.  Should be at least 4.10.04 to handle the later Acrobat versions.  One is probably not at the later version.
There may be a later version than 4.10.04, but Xerox said that this was going to be it, no more NS Plus updates.  I haven't personally seen anything later.

This was a very common NS Plus problem with earlier software versions when Acrobat 5 came out.  A workaround prior to the Xerox fix was to maintain a copy of Acrobat 4 on the submitting workstation, open the Acrobat file in 4, and print it from there.  This worked well enough for 5, but when 6 and 7 came out, the files created with 6 or 7 often would not open in Acrobat 4.  You can load Acrobat 4 along with the later Acrobat versions.  You have to launch 4, then open the pdf within 4.  Double clicking on the pdf won't work.

NS Plus is prone to software corruption as well.  If the version is up to date, then a software re-load will probably fix the issue.  This is a software rip, no PDCIM or other interface card.  You could check transceiver at the Doc I guess.

Untimate solution of course is to convert the machine to a 6135 with an up to date controller.

Two other possibilities, if these ARE  NS Plus servers:

There is a line screen setting, that could be different on the two servers, and the print drivers used by the submitting workstations could be different, or even incorrect.  You could try experimenting with the DT135 PS2 and the 6135 PS3 drivers to see which gives you the best results.

there is a DT135 NSP PS & a DT135 NSP PCL drivers. They come with Vista & XPSP3, and downloadable.
