There is an interlock to the ROS high voltage power supply on the photoreceptor drawer at the toner dispenser plug. Look for a short loop of red 16 gague wire on the front side. The corresponding pins can be punched on the machine side of the connector, and the wires butt-connected (where the harness comes in behind the frame).
This interlock serves no useful purpose, and can be troublesome in several instances, not just developer housing vibration. Removing the interlock loop might be an issue if the machine were to go back onto Xerox service, but it would be easy to re-establish, and I doubt if it would be noticed.
The interlock is designed to turn the laser beam off if the drawer is open. But, even with the drawer open, the laser beam is not going to focus on one point.
HOWEVER, if you routinely remove the entire photoreceptor drawer assembly, and then lie on your back with your head in the machine, your face directly under the laser, looking up (at what??), then perhaps you should leave the interlock in place to prevent possible eye damage.
Besides, how many DocuTechs are going back on Xerox service???
