Set Transport Slamming home
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:03:24 PM »
WELL,, I can't believe that I have another wierd problem, but I do.
I have this DocUtech 135 that the Set Transport is slamming home and causing jams in the finisher.
I originally replaced the Set Position Cylinder in the set transport and made no diffrence at all, I then replaced the Position A and B solinoids, no help.
I then went into DC 201, Set  Transport Test, and ran the set transport test  and it ran great, all the numbers were within spec and it did not slam.
I said,"what the he--?

I then went into DC 106 and ran a couple of sets to the finisher and slam city.
I went back to DC 201 and ran the test 5 times, no slam and good numbers.
I went out of service and tried to run the customers job, SLAM, SLAM ,SLAM.

I did not know what the heck to do next....I had an old set transport laying around in the next building , I went over and put that one in the machine and ran the rest of the customers job ok. NO SLAMMING.
Can anyone tell me what the heck could be wrong with the set transport I took out, with a NEW SET POSITION Cylinder in it?
Midwest Danny...... :-P

There are two sensors, one is position and the other is for slowing the set xport down.
When a flag trips the sensor, the solenoid sends a shot of air to slow down the set xport, if the sensor is out of adjustment, it will slam.
I didn't get into detail about sensor names, but this is how it works.
If it is adjusted the other way, it will coast instead of drive home, thus too slow.

Great, I will try the adjustment the next time I have that transport in a machine.
I guess, I had forgotten about those sensors.

+1 on the sensors being clean & in adjustment. One of them is like 5mm difference ( going off my memory), also the rear shock may be blown.

Hi Don,
Thanks for the reply.
The rear shock is good, I guess the funny part is that this set transport works fine in DC 201, set transport tests....Just when you go to run a real job, it slams.
