Double Feeding on the DC535/545/555, WCP35/45/55
« on: September 11, 2007, 06:22:33 AM »
Has the problem with double feeding ever REALLY been solved on the WorkCentre Pro 35/45/55 (and all other various incarnations) machines? I'm surprised the machines don't have a proper reverse roller/3-roller system like nearly all other Xerox machines to avoid double feeding from the paper trays.

Hi Caffeine,

I have found that removing, cleaning and lubricating the feed head assembly has worked in instances where it does not drop onto paper stack.

Thanks! I actually got rid of all the WorkCentre Pro 55 machines I had and supported because of this issue... It is such a shame because otherwise, they are really nice machines! But the feeding mechanism on this is REALLY horrible. There is no active reversing roller or anything! They just "push and hope" and that seems really... optimistic. I know this machine is a "Xerox" engine and not a "Fuji Xerox" engine, but machines from FX like the Phaser 6xxx, 75xx, and the equivalent DocuColor and WorkCentre have such excellent three-roller (nudge, feed and retard) systems. Even the DocuColor 250 up to the Xerox 700 use the same system. Its a shame they couldn't share. Everyone that I know of uses a three-roller system... Ricoh, Konica, HP, etc etc.

Do you know if the LATEST versions of these systems (the 56xx series) have replaced the feed mechanisms with something more appropriate, or are they basically still the same?

Thanks!

Hi Caffeine,

The 5687 family uses the same system as the DC535f, WCP55f, WCP175f and WCP275f. I haven't had a chance to dismantle and examine the feed head assemblies to see if any improvements have been made from its predecessors.

That sure is a disappointment. They're nice small compact low-power-high-quality machines otherwise. Without that reversing roller of a three-roller system on the underside actively pushing back double-feeds, though, they are so much less reliable.

Okay in an office environment, I suppose, where a double feed isn't the end of the world, but in print-for-pay environment it is a disaster, because if you are duplexing, and it feeds two sheets, it usually doesn't trigger a jam and therefore you've got double-feeds throughout a job you're selling and may not even know.

Thanks for the info! Gotta knock the 5675 and/or 5687 back off my list, I suppose. Had two WCP55's a while back, with the "feeding upgrades" installed even, but they were terrible at it. Otherwise great machines! Sad.
